The Executive Director of House of Ruth was at a speaking engagement in a local workplace and the following testimonial was read about one of the employees, who appreciated the help she received from House of Ruth.
“During the course of each of our lives, no matter how accomplished we are, no matter how much money we make, no matter how supportive our friends, family, or church are, we are susceptible to being a victim of the innumerable tragedies of life.
I am presently an employee here, and was a few years ago a victim of such a tragedy. Being financially secure, having a supportive family and church, I found myself in a situation that no one I knew was equipped of prepared to pull me out of. My husband left me and my three children. I lost my income, my home, and my car. After many weeks of pulling our lives somewhat together and in a new home, he returned in a violent drunken rage that brought the world crashing in around my children and myself.
In desperation, I went through the phone book trying to find legal help. No one was available for free, but one agency told me to contact House of Ruth. It was with their help that I was able to obtain a restraining order to protect my children and my home. But the hardest part of the equation was to follow.
After a few weeks I noticed my 8-year-old daughter withdraw from everyone in her life, her grades fell below failing, and she became very angry. I turned again to House of Ruth. Through seven months of counseling, they were able to bring her bright, giving, and joyful personality back. She is well-adjusted and happy. These services were free to me. If I had been required to pay for them, I would not have been able to do so.
We have faced other tragedies since then, but because of the counseling my daughter received she was able to work through the issues and come out on the other side healthy and complete.
I can’t tell you the impact the services from House of Ruth have made on my life, let alone my daughter’s life. I am forever grateful for their love, expertise, and support. I urge anyone considering donating even the smallest amount of money, to look seriously into the local organizations such as House of Ruth. You won’t know when you or someone you love needs an organization’s services until a tragedy strikes. Plan ahead.”
