Operating Philosophy

Policies and practices at House of Ruth should reflect our belief that:

People will behave responsibly when they are trusted, valued, and respected, when they are capable, confident and in control of their tasks, when they find their work rewarding, when they are challenged and supported in their efforts and when they are held accountable for results.

People will embrace change when they understand why it is necessary, when they view it as the rule rather than the exception, when their issues and concerns are respected and addressed, and when they won’t be disadvantaged as a consequence of changing.

People will work together effectively when they share common goals, when they understand each others' roles and responsibilities, when they know how to value diversity as a source of creativity, and when questioning, probing and challenging of ideas are acceptable work practices.

People will act as leaders and coaches when they understand where it’s appropriate, when they have the skills required to do so, when they experience it first hand from others, when they are not threatened by criticism, and when they believe that good results will flow from their efforts.
